2. Rolling Stops:

Coventryville Road passes over Chestnut Hill in South Coventry Township.  Heading south up Chestnut Hill on Coventryville Road are what is called “Rolling Stops”.  They were put into the hill to give the horses going up the hill a short break.  This gives the horse a break because of these short relatively level areas in the roadway before a climb or descent begins again.  These “Rolling Stops” were needed by the horses either going up or down hill when pulling heavy wagons loaded with such things as iron products.
